A hospital in Haiti completely powered by solar probably isn't a big surprise, but solar energy systems in New Jersey that sell their power to the grid?
Solar energy systems in New Jersey are currently being constructed with the business model of providing their power to the electricity open market. One such 20 acre site will produce 4.7 megawatts of power, create 116 jobs and will employ a few full time staff once built. The 4.7 megawatt production using solar power will eliminate over 4900 metric tons of carbon emissions from the environment or the equivalent of the carbon-dioxide emissions produced by 971 cars per year.
The uplift charges that are normally borne by the consumer, are being picked up by the solar energy systems utility company and not passed on to users. The energy distribution charge represents about 40% of the production cost for the solar energy system*.
